Elevation drawing

A flat, head-on view of one face of a building.

An elevation is an orthographic projection of a single facade — no perspective, no foreshortening, so every dimension on the drawing is to scale.

That flatness is what makes elevations useful for checking proportion and useless for conveying how a building feels. Rendering from an elevation means reintroducing the perspective and depth the drawing deliberately removed.
