Do I need a 3D model to produce a render?

No. A drawing, sketch, or photo is enough — the 3D model is what AI rendering removes.

Conventional CG rendering requires a complete 3D model: geometry built, materials assigned, lights and a camera placed. That modelling work is most of the cost, and it means no image exists until the design is largely resolved.

AI rendering takes a two-dimensional input instead — a floor plan, an elevation, a sketch, a photograph — and infers the rest. There is nothing to model and nothing to set up, so the first usable image can arrive on the day the drawing does.

The trade is control. A 3D model reproduces exactly what you built; an AI render produces a plausible interpretation of what you drew. For early proposals and client conversations that is usually the better bargain. For a drawing that must be dimensionally exact, it is not.
